Hotspots

The visual pointer on every step. Dot and highlight modes, sizing, speed, and per-step overrides.

The hotspot is what draws your viewer's eye to the right place on each step. Escourtly places it exactly where you clicked during recording, so it usually needs no adjustment at all.

Two indicator modes

Every step can use one of two modes, set per step in the Hotspot panel:

An animated marker at the exact click point. Subtle, classic, works everywhere. This is the default. The dot's global style (dot or square pulse), size, and animation speed are demo-wide settings so all steps match.

A spotlight effect: the page dims and the entire clicked element stays lit inside a clean outline. Escourtly captured the element's exact bounds during recording, so the whole button or card is highlighted, not just the click pixel. Great for making the target unmissable.

Highlight needs the element's bounds

Highlight mode uses the clicked element's outline, which the extension records with each step. Steps captured with very old extension versions may not carry it; those steps automatically fall back to the dot.

Demo-wide settings

In the Hotspot panel:

  • Style: the dot variant used across the demo (dot with expanding ring, or square frame pulse).
  • Size: small, medium, or large.
  • Speed: how fast the animation pulses.

The hotspot uses your brand color automatically.

Per-step overrides

With a step selected, the panel's Step Overrides section lets you:

ControlWhat it does
Indicator modeDot or Highlight, for this step only.
Hide hotspotRemove the indicator from this step entirely.
Horizontal nudgeShift the hotspot left or right by pixels.
Vertical nudgeShift it up or down.

Nudges exist for the rare capture where the click landed a few pixels off the visual center of the element. Small corrections, not repositioning: if a hotspot is wildly wrong, the cleaner fix is re-taking that one step via Add step.
